However, the Musco Family Olive Co. presently consumes what was recently seen as a waste material to both treat their wastewater and produce power to run their plant. In 2007, in the wake of being hit by the state with huge fines for water release infringement, the Tracy, CA-based organization started testing a showing measured sustainable power source wastewater framework (RENEWS) delivered by Combined Solar Technologies,Pacific Grove, CA,that demonstrated fit for cleaning the olive plants wastewater containing salts, olive saline solution, olive oil, acidic corrosive, and high measures of absolute broke down solids. The organizations framework starts by taking care of pits into burners where they are combusted. Vitality from the burner warms a warmth move liquid produced using white paraffin second rate cooking oil that heads out through channels to a brackish water kettle. The CST evaporator forms the wastewater utilizing a refining procedure, and pressurized steam delivered from the wastewater controls a steam motor to create power, which is taken care of into the facilitys power appropriation organize. Fumes heat is utilized to dry solids isolated from the wastewater stream. Since introducing a full-scale measured framework in 2010, Musco has had the option to treat its wastewater and produce 500 kwh/hr, or half of the plants electrical requirements for activities, for example, sorters, canners, pitting, pressing, and marking machines. Putting away and Delivering Pits for Combustion Olive pits have a vitality rating of 8,800 Btu for every pound, higher than hard wood, and have a comparable dampness level. The full-sized framework as of now being used at the Musco plant burnstwo to threetons of olive pits each hour. Pits can be scorched straight out of the plant, and theres a simple screw channel framework to get them terminated in the ignition unit at a consistent rate, clarifies Frank Schubert, maker of the Bio-Reactor Burner (BRB) and RENEWS at CST. Pits are taken care of into a storehouse for capacity before taking care of into a burner, and are even utilized marginally wet. Schubert says the pits are not soaked; about portion of the dampness is outwardly in their wrinkles and creases. Now and again pits will be left to dry in the sun, yet in the wake of scaling to the full-sized plant, CST built up a framework to get the 50-60 gallons for every day of water that depleted out of the storehouse so it could be treated with the factories wastewater. Olive pit handling gear. Photograph kindness of cstgreen.comPits are taken care of into a moderately low-temperature burning chamber where air is spun in an interesting manner. Debris is permitted to stay in the burner longer at temperatures lower than other regular frameworks, making a carbon sink that holds in warmth, sulfur and nitrogen oxide. The pits dont seethe; they begin terminating immediately when they hit the bed, and consume at 1,800-2,000 degrees F. As groups of 100 tons are combusted week by week, around one-half ton of buildup is cleared out of the burner.About half of that are clinkers, overwhelming stone like pieces that resemble magma. The other half is fine fly debris that contains nitrates, potassium, magnesium, and different minerals. Both are spread on the olive fields, balancing around one-fourth of the facilitys manure needs. Starting at 2011, Muscos CST burner has passed Californias exacting air quality laws and is formally the cleanest burner in California, delivering lower than required cutoff points for nitrogen oxides, as indicated by Schubert.CSTs bioreactor ignition unit was conceded a license to discharge 17.5-ppm levels of NOx and routinely beats it at 4.7 ppm, as indicated by Schubert. Notwithstanding rewarding wastewater, the RENEWS framework spares charges for manure, squander removal, fuel, and power, and creating power nearby lessens transmission and circulation misfortunes. Musco plans to twofold the size of its flow framework this fall, which will furnish them with 100% of the plants power request. Debbie Snidermanholds a MENG from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. She is an autonomous author and ordinary supporter of Mechanical Engineering. Perserverence Leads to Success - Workology
Perserverence Leads to Success - Workology Perserverence Leads to Success Going from a college graduate to working full-time was not an easy transition for me. My college was paid for and I never really understood the meaning of work. I remember working for Foot Locker when I was in college and I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed it until there was an Ole Miss football game in Oxford and I abruptly quit. No, work had never been a priority. Perserverence Leads to Success My first job out of college was in 1995. I really struggled. Wearing a tie daily, and understanding the competitive landscape of recruiting came as quite a shock to me. My peers were excelling and I was just not getting it. Yes, Aerotek was tough. The average tenure for someone at Aerotek was less than a year. For some reason though, I did not give up. I remember having conversations with friends and they would always ask Why dont you quit? My father played a huge role in me sticking with it. He encouraged me to persevere and work harder. He told me to listen to advice and learn as much from the experience as I possibly could. It was really hard. I remember one Sunday I came into the office and we all talked about the strengths and weaknesses of the 50 recruiters that were in the Austin office. I was probably sensitive, but it seemed like at least 1/2 of the afternoon was a discussion on my weaknesses. That confrontation was the best thing that ever happened to me. I listened to everything that was said to me that day. I took every piece of advice that was given and I got better. I started winning my peers over one by one. A manager noticed some of the changes I was making and asked me to join his team. I knew that until I changed teams I would never be successful at Aerotek. When I joined the new team, I had to start over. I had been with Aerotek 1 year. My goal was to be a Contracts Manager and in order to do that I had to be promoted from a recruiter. It was hard, but it was worth it. Whatever I did the year before didnt matter anymore. I persevered. 5 months later, I was promoted to a Contracts Manager. I quickly became one of the most successful Contracts Managers in the country. I gained some of the top accounts and received awards quickly. I was happy. I was so glad I didnt quit. I was proud of my accomplishments. .ai-rotate {position: relative;} .ai-rotate-hidden {visibility: hidden;} .ai-rotate-hidden-2 {position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;} .ai-list-data, .ai-ip-data, .ai-fallback, .ai-list-block {visibility: hidden; position: absolute; width: 50%; height: 1px; z-index: -9999;} If I would have given up, I would have just been another Aerotek casualty. Instead, I became a great recruiter and what I learned I have applied in every aspect of my life today. Now, I dont agree with all of the things I learned at Aerotek, but I have learned some terrific things. It is because if this experience, that I believe separates me from other recruiters. There are a lot of times in my life where I have given up. I have said I just cant take it any more. I was right when I left some roles. Other times, I wish I would have stayed. Perseverance does pay off. You can have success when you persevere. I have had a Cal Ripken poster in my house that I have had since the Aerotek days. I think we all have a lot to learn from Cal. He never gave up. Never took a day off for 2632 days. That is an astonishing feat. Before you make a change, is the grass really greener? You will be amazed what will happen from sticking it out. .ai-rotate {position: relative;} .ai-rotate-hidden {visibility: hidden;} .ai-rotate-hidden-2 {position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;} .ai-list-data, .ai-ip-data, .ai-fallback, .ai-list-block {visibility: hidden; position: absolute; width: 50%; height: 1px; z-index: -9999;}

Depression Is Making Unemployment Longer
Wretchedness Is Making Unemployment Longer Wretchedness Is Making Unemployment Longer Wretchedness and nervousness make a damaging cycle for work searchers, making it harder to discover a job.Soroush Ghaderi was a sure youthful designer. He worked at Sun Microsystems, one of the mammoths of Silicon Valley, where he had been on staff for a long time, nearly his whole vocation since college.As Sun's fortunes blurred, the QA engineer endure 13 or 14 rounds of cutbacks before karma found him and he was laid off with a great many different representatives in April 2009. He considered it a hit to his mentality, however he realized it was coming and kept up confidence in his capacities and the possibilities for a short quest for new employment. Truth be told, he thought about joblessness as a chance. He had 60 days left on staff at Sun and severance coming after that: a lot of time to locate another, better job.Fast-forward to April 2010, Ghaderi had conveyed many resumes, been on many meetings and gotten zero bids for employment. Ghaderi, when cocksure and positive in his m anner, was blowing it on prospective employee meetings. The responses to specialized inquiries weren't as simple for me, and I was told by a few organizations that they didn't think my programming information was sufficient, he said. In a meeting, you have possibly five or 10 minutes to address an inquiry. They request that you keep in touch with some code on the board. In case you're not doing it all day every day, it will take you somewhat longer to get the specific language structure. That is what was getting difficult.His certainty squandered and sorrow seething, it arrived at a point where I realized I wasn't going to get a proposal before I even went to the meeting, he said. Thinking back now, I understand that my downturn and cynicism was likely a factor in a portion of my interviews.Ghaderi was caught in a ruinous cycle regular among the jobless - misery and pessimism were making it harder for him to find a new line of work, which exacerbated his downturn and antagonism, thu s on.Depression, tension and disquietude aren't only an instance of the blues to wake up from, said Deb Brown, a psychological conduct therapist. The condition will sap your certainty and effect your capacity to think and act, making it hard to sell yourself as the best and most brilliant possibility for a job.Time and RoutineFor most, the period of time it takes to get a new line of work and neglected desires exacerbate the situation. The span of time that individuals are managing is presumably going to be any longer than they suspected when they previously lost their jobs.Brown, who has experience instructing work searchers to move out of gloom and improve their introduction abilities, said it's basic for individuals who have been jobless for significant stretches of time to constantly check their mentalities. This, obviously, is far more difficult than one might expect, which is the reason a nearby system of companions, family and associates is critical. The time individuals will in general need to pull back is actually the time they need individuals around them to offer help, point of view and all around cheerleading.It is basic for individuals when they begin feeling down to pull back, and that tragically is the absolute last thing that somebody unemployed ought to do, Brown said. Remain out there, stay organizing, [even though] that is hard when you're beginning to feel down and hopeless.Job searchers ought to likewise work to keep up a routine situated to some extent on business best practices. It is critical for the individuals who have been unemployed for an all-encompassing timeframe to make statements of purpose and changed marketable strategies so as to inhale new life into their circumstance, said Jeffrey Sumber, an authorized psychotherapist and vocation improvement mentor. I urge individuals to go through at any rate three hours per day, every day, getting things done toward getting recruited. Three hours is a tremendous measure of time that sho uld be considered into one's timetable, in a perfect world in the morning.Publicist Jeremy Belitsos, who confronted his own yearlong stretch of joblessness, concurred that daily schedule and dealing with yourself are basic. Belitsos suggests working out, rising early (Getting up late genuinely makes for an apathetic day) and discovering a work inside your field. Continually interning and getting experience inside your field, regardless of whether it's end of the week provisional labor you find over the Internet, has clearly great ramifications for keeping your work tests and references new, said Belitsos.Confidence BoostAfter feeling clumsy and a couple of steps behind the pack, Ghaderi chose in mid-2010 to hone his programming abilities - in Perl, explicitly. Be that as it may, what he found in class was new data as well as certainty. I am a genuinely decent software engineer, and being in class where I had the option to contrast myself with 30 different understudies gave me some c onfidence.With a more brilliant individual standpoint, new abilities and a somewhat improving activity advertise, Ghaderi got not one but rather two bids for employment in the fall of 2010, only half a month prior to his joblessness benefits were set to expire.Of the two occupations he was offered, Ghaderi chose to take the one that saved money yet was full time instead of the agreement to-lasting open door offered by another organization. The firm he is currently working at is littler than he is utilized to, yet offers a great deal of opportunity.Still, Ghaderi isn't allowing his gatekeeper to guard: I despite everything see places of work, he stated, looking at the ranges of abilities they're searching for, ensuring that I don't relax on any of those things - on the off chance that something turns out badly once more.

How Recruiters Can Master Email Marketing
How Recruiters Can Master Email Marketing Messages love them or severely dislike them, they are powerful for enlistment promoting, for coming to both clients and up-and-comers. What are the components of an effective email advertising technique? We spoke to Tamsin Fox-Davies, Senior Development Manager at Constant Contact and you could tune in to the talk underneath. Dont overlook to subscribe to the Employer Branding Podcast. Why is email promoting still significant? I consider it the powerhouse of your advanced showcasing. In this way, web-based social networking and distinctive internet based life channels presently get more buzz, however by the day's end, individuals invest most energy, regularly, in their email inbox. In this way, that is the place you can hit them. I have an activity that I frequently do when Im addressing private company crowds, and Ill request that individuals put their hand up if theyve utilized Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn that day. Somewhere close to a third to 66% of individuals may put their hand up. Also, I state, Okay, right. Presently put your hand up if youve utilized Instagram, YouTube or Pinterest for your business today. Furthermore, less individuals put their hand up. It relies upon how technically knowledgeable the crowd is. And afterward I state, Okay, who has utilized email for their business today? Furthermore, everyone puts their hand up except if theyre those adamant individuals that will never put thei r hands ready for anything. That is actually the simplest method to show the predominance that email despite everything has in our business culture. Its simply the way that you can really get the opportunity to individuals when you need to. Theres even some intriguing measurements that demonstrate the degree to which individuals will proceed to make a buy from an association if theyve got an email from them, however they didnt even open the email. Simply that reality of showing up reliably before individuals is an advantage in itself. Are messages more trusted than online life? I dont realize that its an instance of progressively trusted, on the grounds that we as a whole get spam messages or things that we think may be spam and afterward we take a gander at them dubiously and erase them immediately except if you are my mom who has wound up with some infections at odd occasions, however now she knows to ask me, which is an improvement. I dont think its an instance of trust. I think its an instance of what you anticipate that that medium should do. In this way, for instance, we are expert pick in email. We totally don't have faith in spam and actually if youve purchased a mailing show, you can't utilize it with Constant Contact. In this way, what I believe is an advantage of picked in email correspondences is that individuals have really put their hand up and stated, Yes, I would like to get notification from this association regarding these matters since, you know, a legitimate email select in mentions to you what youre really going to get. Individuals at t hat point expect it and they acknowledge it also. On the off chance that the desire has been set properly and their desires been met, theyre receiving what they need in return. I think with LinkedIn messages, its not the medium, however its the manner in which individuals use them. I locate that a great deal of the LinkedIn messages that I get are all of a sudden from individuals Ive never knew about, Im going to erase that except if its extremely clever, regularly. What's more, Ive just had two or three those ever, ones that have been extremely amusing and Ive really thought, You recognize what, Im going to look somewhat more profound into this. Be that as it may, better believe it, same with Twitter direct messages. I think its incredible since you can really its made simpler for you to DM individuals who arent essentially tailing you on the grounds that there is consistently that issue where youd get somebody saying DM me and youd resemble, I cant in light of the fact that youre not tailing me. In any case, I can see individuals are as of now beginning to manhandle what is all of a sudden deals messages. In this way, its not the medium, its how you use it. How would you make an email subject line that gets individuals clicking? What many individuals dont acknowledge is that the main motivation behind a title is to get your email opened, correct? Along these lines, consider that. Its the main reason. Its not to essentially give instruction in itself. Its solitary employment is to get that email opened. What's more, the vast majority dont take a gander at them in that manner by any means. Presently, saying that, on the off chance that I get an email from you and it says, Free Chocolate in the headline, there sure as damnation should be some free chocolate in there or Im desiring you, essentially. Thus, you dont need to be deceiving about it. You need to ensure that its giving individuals a kind of why they should really open that bulletin and theres a couple of key guidelines. Theres something that we like to call the 2-2-2 guideline which is that youve got two seconds to catch people groups eye. The initial two words are the most significant. Also, you need to get them to make a move today. In this way, this means people groups abilities to focus are short. Youve got two seconds to catch their eye. Along these lines, what you need to do is utilize moderately short words. You need to keep the entire thing quite short too, around five words is most likely the greatest that you ought to have in an email pamphlet title. It ought to be exceptionally clear-what youre offering by individuals opening your email. At the point when we state the initial two words are the most significant, what weve discovered is that individuals will peruse the initial two expressions of the headline and afterward choose whether theyre in any event, going to try perusing the remainder of the title. Not open the email, however even the remainder of the headline. No doubt, I know, its insane. Also, you need to give them some explanation that is convincing for them to open that email now since what happens is, when individuals are figuring out their email inboxes and I do it and you do it and every other person does it or we do it subliminally, is that as youre looking down your inbox, youre sort of experiencing the Now, Later, or Never process. You need to be in the Now heap. How might you join email promoting with internet based life? There are several unique ways. I would state that the principal thing that you need to consider is very you can utilize web based life to fabricate your rundown. Truth be told, let me simply give a touch of setting here. Online life will in general make various kinds of connections than email, at various rates. What you can do is you can utilize the intensity of both of those sorts of connections to truly support you. Along these lines, email will make very connections of building that sentiment of trust and seeing rapidly in light of the fact that youre continually appearing in their inbox and they see you and they see your face. Be that as it may, your number of individuals youre reaching will in general be littler in light of the fact that they need to select in to you. In the event that youre doing things right, they need to pick in to you, which is the thing that I altogether suggest. Be that as it may, via web-based networking media, you can significantly more rapidly arrive at a bigger number of individuals, however the connections there will in general be somewhat progressively questionable. I really consider internet based life as to a greater extent a communicate medium than email, truly. For instance, I have some dear companions that I met through social channels, yet we didnt become companions and we didnt take the relationship to a more close to home level than simply Twitter or Facebook until we really moved away from those channels. Along these lines, it was the point at which we chose to have a call or get together for espresso or something to that effect. Heres how you can utilize the advantage of both of those things on the grounds that preferably what you need to do is to get each and every individual who is on our email mailing list, associated with you on all prevailing social channels. Additionally, get most of your social adherents and fans onto your mailing list. Youre never going to get 100% of that. The numbers will slant more towards one side than the other, however that is the thing that you should focus on. In this way, there are various beneficial things that you can do. As a matter of first importance, really connecting back to your site from your social profiles and your pamphlet and have a presentation page on your site that is intended to get them to discover more. I think the first occasion when I saw somebody do that truly very much was a companion of mine. Hes situated in the west, Peter Shankman. Hes very notable in PR circles. He had his Twitter bio connected to a page on his site that was titled So you discovere d me on Twitter. He gave more of a point by point bio, he clarified what sort of stuff he posted. That is an incredible spot to likewise include a sign-up interface for your mailing list in such a case that Ive experienced the trouble of really tapping on your connection in your profile, I presumably need to know more. Along these lines, that is one incredible way. Interface with Tamsin on Twitter @tamsinfd and make certain to buy in to the Employer Branding Podcast.

How to Attract Top Talent with Quality Job Postings
How to Attract Top Talent with Quality Job Postings Sponsored by Workopolis: In the hunt for great candidates, a job posting is your first important step. If written well, your job description can attract much higher applicants from the start, saving you time and, most importantly, money. Of course, thatâs easier said than done. If youâve ever experienced the frustration involved with staring at a blank page, you know writing just about anything can be a challenge. You donât, however, have to struggle. You just have to do your homework. Start with an intake meeting to get the nitty-gritty on the position. What is the day-to-day reality of the role? What are its responsibilities, tasks, and objectives? Once you have that information, itâs all a matter of writing (and re-writing). Here are some tips on how to write job postings that attract top talent. Clarity counts You need to be very clear and specific about required qualifications. When a candidate reads your job description, they must instantly know if this position is for them (and if they have what it takes for the position). If there is any uncertainty, you will be inundated with resumes and candidates â" the bulk of which may not be qualified for the position. To avoid this, clearly define and list qualifications that are mandatory for the job. This should include things like professional certifications, years of experience, and education levels. For more technical roles, itâs also a good idea to list software, platforms, and coding languages to give applicants a good sense of the work involved. Top talent knows what theyâre doing, and they know their value on the job market. If there is any confusion over your required qualifications or skills, they will look elsewhere. Use industry-specific job titles Creative job titles (like Data Ninja or Grand Poobah of People) might seem like an easy way to make your company look fun and hip, but this can backfire: they can keep your job posting out of search results. Think of it from a job seekerâs perspective. What would they be more likely to search for? A job as a ninja or an analyst? While the former certainly sounds more exciting, most people with a data background will opt for the latter. The same goes for industry jargon and organization-specific terminology. If you have a specific term for an analyst, how does a job seeker know this? Instead, use commonly known titles that are in-line with industry norms. These are the keywords candidates will use in a job search. So even if it feels boring, when it comes to the right candidate, boring is beautiful. Keep it short and sweet This position might be the most important role in your organization, but it doesnât mean you have to channel your inner Tolstoy. Stick to whatâs essential, and donât overwhelm the reader. The goal should be to make things easy to read. So, where possible, use subheadings, bullet points, and short paragraphs to break up blocks of text. Itâs also important to use simple language; the more understandable it is, the more you can expand your potential reach. Sell your brand The reality is many of the top candidates out there are already employed. Your job posting has to entice them enough to want to make a change. So, you need to put a focus on the positives of your company, including the location of your office (especially if itâs in a trendy neighborhood), the hours (do you offer flex time or work from home options?), vacation time, the salary range, and any other exciting perks and benefits you might offer. An important thing to remember is not to shortchange the work itself. Many of the most talented candidates out there are looking to challenge themselves and progress in their careers. The chance to work on an exciting project, for example, can often be an enticing proposition in and of itself. Avoid cliches You know what weâre talking about. Job postings tend to be filled with descriptors like âdetail-orientedâ or âhard-working.â You might really want these types of employees, but the subjective nature of these words can create misconceptions about what is actually required for the job. Instead, use specific, objectively proven (e.g. leadership skills proven by prior experience managing a team). Itâs also important to use keywords that are associated with that kind of role. Again, put yourself in the shoes of a job seeker. You might be hiring a âcopywriter,â but a qualified job seeker might also be searching for âcommunicationsâ or âeditor.â Dust off that thesaurus and show off your vocabulary. 7 ways to perfect your candidate application journey
7 ways to perfect your candidate application journey Candidate journey is an important component of your employer brand, and something you should be constantly looking to improve. Comprised of every touch point that a candidate has with your brand as they move along your application process, it will play a big part in shaping the opinion that is formed of your company as an employer. From applying to job adverts and having initial discussions with recruiters, right through to interview and offer stage, every part of the journey must reflect your brandâs professionalism and personality. This infographic from StandOut CV shows 7 actionable steps you can take to perfect your candidate journey and strengthen your employer brand. 1. Qualify your vacancies Before connecting with any candidates itâs crucial that you have a deep understanding of the roles you are recruiting for. without this, the candidate journey will have weak foundations and will fall apart very quickly. Ensure that all vacancies are qualified thoroughly via in-depth meetings with hiring managers to understand the exact candidate requirements for the role, and create a detailed job spec to work from. A five-minute phone call with a hiring manager will not produce nearly enough detail to recruit for a role effectively and will result in the wrong candidates being brought into the process, who will ultimately end up frustrated with the lack of info on the role. 2. Write accurate job adverts In order to provide a pleasant experience for candidates, you must ensure that you are attracting the most suitable people for your company and the role in question. Whilst you want to sell the role, be sure not to make any exaggerations, keeping the description as factual as possible, especially when it comes to describing remuneration. A candidate who receives a job offer that was much less than they had been led to believe by the advert they applied for, will not become a huge fan of your employer brand. 3. Communicate with all applicants Once your job adverts are live, itâs important to maintain clear communications with all candidates whether they are successful or not. Ensure all unsuccessful candidates receive some form of notification of their application status, whether itâs an auto-response or personal mail. If candidates have taken the time to apply for your roles and feel as though they have been ignored, it can be very damaging to your employer brand. Communicate with shortlisted candidates by telephone and email to confirm they are being considered for the role, and keep them engaged 4. Manage your shortlistâs expectations Once you have a shortlist of suitable candidates, you must ensure that they are thoroughly qualified, and fully aware of the role and subsequent process stages. If candidates arenât properly managed at this stage, you wonât be projecting the image of a professional employer. Conduct telephone or face-to-face interviews to screen candidates, but also to clarify their understanding of the role and expectations, whilst ensuring you feedback to every candidate who has been unsuccessful in a timely manner. 5. Build a robust interview process Interviewing can be a challenging experience for candidates, so ensure that you make your interview process as smooth and transparent as possible for them. Arrange interviews, ensuring you have a rigorous process to ensure both candidate and hiring manager have confirmed location, date and time. Book out some time to help candidates prepare for interviews, ensuring they understand the format and any topics that will be covered 6. Manage rejections and offers with tact At the final stage of the recruitment process, candidates have invested lots of time and effort with your company, so you need to ensure they are treated with the utmost respect and professionalism, regardless of the outcome for them. Get job offers out to successful candidates ASAP â" making them wait for weeks will really hurt their opinion of your employer brand. Chase hiring managers who are delaying decisions and push to get them out. Inform unsuccessful candidates via telephone and give them detailed feedback as to why they werenât selected. Candidates who feel brushed aside at this stage of the process are very likely to talk about their negative experience on social media or employer review sites â" so donât give them any reason to. 7. Monitor and improve your candidate journey To strengthen your employer brand, itâs important that you understand how applicants feel about your customer journey and improve any areas where you are failing. Monitor social media and employer review sites for mentions of your brand, and conduct applicant surveys to get first-hand feedback from people who have been on your candidate journey. Develop and implement plans to strengthen underperforming areas of the journey
